El trabajo examina los conceptos de representación política y de responsabilidad política y su interconexión. Realiza un análisis de las diversas formas de gobierno, de sus órganos, instituciones y de sus mecanismos, tanto en perspectiva histórica como tomando los modelos de Reino Unido, Francia, Estados Unidos y, especialmente Italia, cuyo estudio vertebra el trabajo. Todo ello conduce a un análisis de la actualidad y del futuro de estas figuras, con un especial énfasis en el papel de los partidos políticos.

The paper examines the concepts of political representation and political responsibility and their interconnection. It analyzes the various forms of government, its organs, institutions and their mechanisms, both in historical perspective and taking models from the United Kingdom, France, the United States and, especially Italy, whose study structures the paper. All this leads to an analysis of the present and future of these figures, with a special emphasis on the role of political parties.
