This article discusses the sequencing of the genomes of two woolly mammoths. The results of a high throughput DNA sequencing project for the mammoth carried out by the geneticists Webb Miller and Stephan C. Schuster are considered. An analysis of the mitochondrial DNA of these mammoths, which indicates that they belonged to divergent species that coexisted, is presented.
