This article discusses the planned development of port facilities in the Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary on the northeastern coast of India, which is a nesting ground for the olive ridley sea turtle. Activists question the relationship between the developer Dhamra Port Co. Ltd. and the environmental group International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in coordinating support for these facilities. The role of corporate sponsorship in the management of the IUCN is questioned.
