    En 1972 la Asamblea General de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas designó al 5 de junio como «Día Mundial del Medio Ambiente», con el fin de profundizar la conciencia universal de proteger y mejorar el medio ambiente.

    En Cuba se comenzó a conmemorar esta fecha en 1979 y cada año se realiza una Jornada Nacional en la que participan instituciones y organizaciones, vinculada a esta esfera de vital importancia para el desarrollo humano.

    Las Naciones Unidas declararon el año 2014 como Año Internacional de los Pequeños Estados Insulares en Desarrollo, bajo el lema «Alza tu voz y no el nivel del mar». El objetivo es centrar la atención en la necesidad urgente de proteger a estos territorios de los crecientes riesgos y desafíos a los que se enfrentan como consecuencia del cambio climático. En Cuba las actividades centrales se desarrollaron en la provincia la Pinar del Río, bajo el lema que encabeza esta nota editorial.

    In 1972 the General Assembly of the Organization of the United Nations designated at June 5 like «World Day of the environment», with the purpose of deepening the universal conscience of to protect and to improve the environment.

    In Cuba you began to commemorate this date in 1979 and every year is carried out a National Day in the one that participate institutions and organizations, linked to this sphere of vital importance for the human development.

    The United Nations declared the year 2014 as International Year of the Small States Islanders in Development, under the motto «it Raises your voice and not the level of the sea». The objective is to center the attention in the urgent necessity of protecting to these territories of the growing risks and challenges to those that face as consequence of the climatic change. In Cuba the central activities were developed in the county the Pinegrove of the River, under the motto that heads this editorial note.
