Objectives: To determine the level of knowledge and the use of emergency oral contraception in fifth and sixth cycle students of PedroRuiz Gallo National University in the city of Lambayeque. Methods: descriptive study of transverse type. Population students from fifthand sixth cycle of powers grouped into 4 areas with 1 514 students, was carried out a sampling stratified by proportional affixation being the final sample of 227 students. Instrument: survey type questionnaire autoaplicadas simultaneous anonymously in classroom, with informed consent. Results: students possess an intermediate knowledge of the oral emergency contraceptive 57,62% and the use of the same was referred by 37.6% of students who have already had sex, 73% had an adverse event after the use, the couple was suggested in the first use opportunity to 38.3%. Conclusions: the students have a level of acceptable knowledge of emergency oral contraception and the more than a third of them have already used at some time.
