It was William Cowper, the British 18th century poet, who said: "variety is the spice of life, that gives it all its flavour". This proverb certainly applies to this month's issue of IM, which is packed with features covering a myriad of different end markets.
We will, however, ignore that Cowper's quote is taken from one of his most confused books of poetry and gloss over the fact he was almost certainly suffering from a mental illness at the time.
But, when it comes to spices, while some like it hot, others prefer it mild - an analogy that could be used for producers and buyers of industrial mineral products, which are benefitting and suffering, respectively, from a rebound in prices for many minerals this year.
Running through the various markets discussed, one subject is consistently prevalent: that of tightening Chinese environmental legislation and the impact it is having on different industrial mineral sectors.
