    La Formación Payandé (Triasico Superior) representa una facies marina predominantemente calcárea, cuyos afloramientos actuales se hallan restringidos prácticamente al borde occidental del Valle Superiordel Rio Magdalena. A pesar de ser conocida en la literatura geológica desde hace más de 30 años, aún son muchas las dudas que se plantean, en especial en lo referente al carácter de los limites estratigráficos, losespesores, la ubicación de los fósiles en la columna, la facies, la paleogeografía y, últimamente, la edad. En el presente trabajo se analizan, por separado, esos interrogantes y se intenta darles solución.

    Die obertriassische Payandé Formation stellt eine kalkige Fazies dar, die fast ausschlieBlich am westlichen Rand des Oberen Magdalena-Tals vorkommt.  Arbeiten, die sich ganz oder teilweise mit der Payandé- Formation beschaeftigen, sind seit etwa 30 Jahren in der geologischen Literatur bekannt. Trotzdem bleiben noch bis heute Fragen bezueglich der Eigenschaften der stratigraphischen Grenzen, der Maechtigkeit, der Lage der Fossilien im Profil, der Fazies der Paleogeographie und, in den letzten Tagen, des Alters offen. In diesem Beitrag werden solche Fragen eroertert, un des wird versucht, befriedigende Loesungen fuer sie zu finden.

    The Payandé Formation (Upper Triassic) represents a predominantly calcareous-marine facies whose present outcrops are practically all restricted to the Western edge of the upper Magdalena valley. Although it has been known in geological literature for more than thirty years, many doubts are still encountered, especially where the nature of the stratigraphic limits are concerned; its thicknesses, the location of the fossils within the column, the facies, the palaeogeography, and lately the age. In the present study, these uncertainties will be analysed separately in an attempt to clarify them.
