    La obra del exégeta alemán Heinz Schürmann, universalmente reconocida, posee una unidad vigorosa, una identidad personal especial como exégesis histórico-crítica de los evangelios, que le permite el diálogo franco no solo con los demás exégetas destacados de su tiempo, sino también con la teología fundamental y dogmática y las cuestiones filosóficas pertinentes a los temas tratados. El concepto de pro-existencia, que propuso y explicó ampliamente, es el más destacado ejemplo de dicha apertura, porque con él quiere no solo caracterizar la actitud fundamental de Jesús de Nazaret, sino también el ser mismo de Dios y la identidad de la vida cristiana. Más allá de este concepto, sin embargo, la exégesis de Schürmann, con todo rigor crítico, ha acercado la Biblia a la teología y a la vida cristiana, gracias a la luz de la sequela Christi, tomada como elemento constitutive del testimonio bíblico sobre Jesucristo.

    The work of the universal recognized German exegete Heinz Schürmann retains a vigorous unity, a unique personal identity as historical-critical exegesis of the Gospels, which allows frank dialogue not only with the other outstanding exegetes of his time, but also with fundamental and dogmatic theology, and philosophical issues relevant to the topics covered. The concept of pro-existence, which he proposed and explained comprehensively, is the most outstanding example of this openness, because with it he seeks, not only to characterize the fundamental attitude of Jesus of Nazareth, but also the very being of God and the identity of the Christian life. Beyond this concept, however, the exegesis of Schürmann, without abandoning any critical rigor, has brought the Bible closer to theology and the Christian life, due to the light shed by sequela Christi, which is taken as the constitutive element of the biblical witness concerning Jesus Christ.
