The genome editing technique has now been tested in animals as a possible therapy for saving the sight of people with inherited eye diseases, and the results are looking good. They are certainly very excited by the potential, says Alex Hewitt at the University of Tasmania, Australia, whose team has shown that it is possible to use CRISPR to disable genes in the eyes of mice.
