Sales should start to race higher once the price for new electric vehicles (NEVs) gets closer, on a like-for-like basis, to [the price for] internal combustion engine vehicles,” William Adams, head of battery raw materials research at Metal Bulletin, said. Battery-grade lithium carbonate spot prices more than tripled to a monthly average of $26.60 per kg in April 2016, from $7.70 per kg in June 2015.
