Saint Gobain Chinese glass output to double, capitalizing on growing automotive demand and new joint venture with 160,000-tonnes-per-year capacity.
French multi-commodities group Saint-Gobain has taken a 50% partnership stake in a flat glass production operation with Chinese group JJG, while it strives to expand its presence in the flat glass market in China, with a focus on automotive markets.
It has entered a joint venture (JV) agreement for a share in JJG, located in Zibo in north-eastern China’s Shandong province. The company has capacity of 160,000 tonnes per year of glass production.
“This JV will allow Saint-Gobain to almost double its production of basic glass in China, reinforcing the reliability of the flat glass supply for its Sekurit automotive glass factories,” Saint-Gobain said.
