Mexichem also removed some demand from the market through a sale of its UK refrigerants business in November 2017.Indian fluorochemicals company SRF, purchased Mexichem’s UK business and then relocated the assets to Gujarat, India. Strong population growth in India and China is driving the construction sector and automotive sales -which in turn creates demand for refrigerants and fluoropolymers - and this, coupled with uncertainty over fluorocarbon regulations, means there is continued scope for consumers to relocate from Europe to Asia and further weigh on the supply and demand balance in Europe.
