The Chinese producer will strengthen its market position by entering a second strategic partnership.
Chinese producer Tianqi Lithium has agreed to buy the 24% stake in Chilean counterpart Sociedad Química y Minera de Chile (SQM) currently held by Nutrien.
Tianqi has agreed to pay Nutrien a cash sum of $65 per-share of SQM, for a total value of about $4.07 billion.
The Chinese company will pay a 12% premium over SQM’s closing share price on Wednesday May 16.
Nutrien also expects to divest the 20,166,319 B-shares that it holds in SQM.
