La conmemoración del V Centenario de la Reforma Protestante ha propiciado una revisión historiográfica tanto en el campo católico como protestante de la Reforma y de la figura de Lutero. El actual contexto ecuménico ha posibilitado un nuevo acercamiento a la persona y obra de Lutero más serena y ponderada. El presente artículo recorre esa evolución que se ha producido tanto en lo histórico como en lo doctrinal y que ha afectado tanto a la visión historiografía católica del reformador de Wittenberg como al posicionamiento ante sus planteamientos teológicos.

The fifth centenary of the Protestant Reformation has provided an opportunity for a renewed historiographic review of the life of reformer Martin Luther and the Reformation in general. Moreover, the rise of the ecumenical movement has facilitated a more balanced and serene approach to Luther’s life and work from the Roman Catholic perspective. This article focuses on the historical and doctrinal evolution of the Catholic assessment of Martin Luther and his theology.
