This article discusses the possible effect of the dispersion of atmospheric gas on the character of planet Earth and others in the solar system. The authors report research indicating that the escape of hydrogen from planetary atmospheres can result in a variety of chemical conditions including the oxidized landscape of Mars and the carbon dioxide rich atmosphere of Venus.
