  • Resumen
    • The article discusses the possibility that the New Madrid earthquake fault in the Midwest U.S. may be deactivating. The occurrence of strong earthquakes in the area in 1811 and 1812 is noted, mentioning that researchers mounted global positioning system (GPS) antennas at the fault's heart for eight years and did not record any movement, which suggests that the fault is shutting down. INSET: Where the Fault Lies within a Plate.
