Siguiendo el modelo del Cato mayor de senectute liber, de Cicerón, éste pone en boca de Catón el Viejo su parecer sobre la senectud, considerándola simplemente como una etapa más de la vida, refutando los cuatro argumentos que la denostan. Basándome en doscientos variopintos personajes mayores de ochenta años y aceptando el tono festivo que pueda entreverse, asumo la postura catoniana
