The article discusses deep-sea mining in relation to environmental destruction. Mining of minerals including nickel, cooper, and cobalt is addressed, as well as deep-sea mining of manganese nodules. The environmental effects of deep-sea mining on living organisms are noted. The significance of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) the regulatory body International Seabed Authority (ISA) are addressed, as well as the significance of exclusive economic zones (EEZs).
