Resumen de Chaos in the Crater.

Graham P. Collins

  • The article reports that intense, random magnetism is found in the Vredefort Crater near Johannesburg, South Africa. Scientists believe the source of the crater's magnetism was a strong and chaotic magnetic field that was generated by currents flowing in the ionized gases produced by the collision of a 10-kilometer wide asteroid about two billion years ago. Geologists estimate the crater has a diameter of about 200 to 300 kilometers. INSET: SHOCKED ROCKS.
