  • The article discusses the importation of art works and a decision by the European Commission (EC) to not classify video installations by artists Dan Flavin and Bill Viola as art, thereby subjecting them to higher customs fees. The author describes a legal challenge brought by the Haunch of Venison gallery in London, England, following a British customs official's judgment that the audiovisual equipment warranted the higher value added tax (VAT) rate.
