In this article the author offers observations on the Toio standing lamp that was created in 1962 by the Italian industrial designer Achille Castiglioni for the lighting company Flos. Particular focus is given to the author's comparisons between the lamp and modernist sculpture. Castiglioni's use of an automobile headlamp in the lamp's design is also discussed.
