The article discusses the work of the Polish sculptor Alina Szapocznikow. Particular focus is paid to her depiction of the human body as a site of fragmentation and violence. Several of her works are pictured and discussed including "Piotr," which depicts a figure of a naked man, "Goldfinger" and a series titled "Tumors." It is noted that the exhibition "Alina Szapocznikow: Sculpture Undone, 1955-1972" is on view at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, California until April 29, 2012.
