  • The article presents a reprint of the article “The Pains and Pleasures of Rebirth: Women's Body Art,” by Lucy R. Lippard, which appeared in a 1976 issue of “Art in America.” The article focuses on body art in the 1970s and the differences between the body art of men and women. The author offers a history of women in body art beginning in the 1960s and her opinion that body art is a corner into which women have been forced by men where they become narcissistic and objectify themselves.
