  • The article discusses the work of the German artist Thomas Demand. The artist is known for creating full-size paper replicas of interiors which he then photographs, before ultimately destroying them. The interiors are based on photographs of newsworthy sites which have appeared in the media. According to the author, Demand counters the distractions of media glut by creating pared-down, subtle images. Particular focus is paid to "Control Room," which features the control room of Japan's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power.
