    • The article examines the life and work of the American photographer Dawoud Bey. Particular focus is given to how he was inspired to be an artist after viewing the 1969 exhibition "Harlem on My Mind," which was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Additional topics discussed include how he depicts African Americans in his work, his use of the Polaroid film format and his involvement in the Chicago, Illinois, art scene.
