  • The article discusses the 1958 photography book "The Americans," by Swiss photographer Robert Frank. Its evocative depictions of society and culture in the United States in the 1950s is discussed, as is Frank's background and training in photography, first in Switzerland and then in New York under Walker Evans. Frank retrospective exhibitions in the U.S. in 2009 are also mentioned.
