  • The article discusses five artists who engage in what the author terms "provisional painting"--works that seem slap-dash, unfinished, or "self-cancelling." Painters discussed include Raoul De Keyser, Albert Oehlen, Christopher Wool, Mary Heilmann, and Michael Krebber. Their work is placed in context through a discussion of exhibitions of work by Joan Miró, Martin Barré, and Kimber Smith.
