The article examines the work of the Uruguay-born artist Joaquín Torres García. Particular focus is given to his contributions to the modernist and avant-garde art movements. Additional topics discussed include how his work increased the awareness of Latin American art in the U.S. and Europe, insights on his work in painting, including fresco painting, and his use of imagery and symbolism in his art.
