    Written less than ten years before the Memoirs cycle, The Second Sex proposes a reading grid of Beauvoir’s life at the very moment when she begins her autobiography. Locating the creative values on the male side, the sociohistorical analyses of her essay on the condition of women then contribute to divide the perception of her identity as an intellectual female between valorization and a feeling of illegitimacy. The enterprise in the first person may thus be considered as a self-reappropriation in a gesture which, through its performative effect and, owing to writing, builds her authority as a creator.

    Écrit moins de dix ans avant le cycle des Mémoires, Le Deuxième sexe propose, au moment où Beauvoir entame son autobiographie, une grille de lecture de son existence. Situant les valeurs créatrices du côté du masculin, les analyses socio-historiques de son essai sur la condition des femmes contribuent alors à diviser l’appréhension de son identité d’intellectuelle entre valorisation et sentiment d’illégitimité. L’entreprise à la première personne peut ainsi se comprendre comme une réappropriation de soi dans une démarche qui, par son effet performatif et grâce à l’écriture, construit son autorité de créatrice.
