Resumen de La preilustración universalista

Este artículo ofrece una introducción descriptiva de la preilustración española discriminando los rasgos característicos del movimiento ‘novator’, las dificultades que impidieron su natural desarrollo y, de manera comparatista, se presentan las iniciativas y las obras, con una clara intención programática, del grupo de profesores que coincidieron en la Universidad de Cervera en la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII. La finalidad principal es discernir, en estos profesores, una preilustración alternativa a la de los novatores que sirve de precedente a la Escuela Universalista Española, y que cobra su sentido a la luz de los presupuestos de ésta.

This article offers a descriptive introduction of the Spanish pre- enlightenment, discriminating the characteristic features of the ‘novator’ movement, the difficulties that prevented its natural development and, in a comparative way, the initiatives and works, with a clear programmatic intention, of the group of teachers who met at the University of Cervera in the second half of the eighteenth century. The main purpose is to discern, in these teachers, an alternative prelude to that of the “novatores” that serves as a precedent to the Spanish Universalist School, and that takes on its meaning in the light of its presuppositions.
