  • The article focuses on conservation efforts and the decline of African lion populations. It states that eight of nine lion populations in West Africa are in decline, while only the Serengeti lion population in East Africa is doing positively. It mentions that most lion populations in southern Africa are still thriving as they live in fenced-in parks and reserves, or live in deserts that are inhospitable to humans. It comments on problems with wildlife management of small fragmented landscapes.
