The article explores historical linguistics and the spread of the Proto-Indo-European (PIE) language from Central Asia. Emphasis is given to two competing hypotheses which situate the origins of PIE either in the steppes of the Kurgan Homeland of nomads or from farmers in Anatolia (Turkey). Other topics include the role of genetic evidence, disagreement among linguists, and computational analyses.
