  • The article discusses the behavior of spotted nutcracker birds when storing seeds from Swiss stone pine trees of the Carpathian Mountains and the Alps for later consumption. A study by German researcher Lena Neuschulz and colleagues, published in the January 2015 issue of the "Journal of Animal Ecology," is discussed, which suggests that spotted nutcrackers select areas where seed germination and perishability is minimal to bury and store their food.
