Ser agente na prisão feminina: entre a assistência, a disciplina e o respeito

    In the present study, we intend to demonstrate what it means to be a prison officer in the main female prison in Rio Grande do Sul. For this reason we seek, through the implementation of empirical research, using various techniques (ethnographic approach, literature review and interviews), portraying how the agents perceive their role and the types of relationships that develop with the convict during the exercise of their profession. The field takes place in the facilities of the Madre Pelletier Women’s Penitentiary, in Porto Alegre, during the period from April to November of 2015. From the development of this work, we find that, in view of the prison officers, your role goes far beyond the surveillance of bodies. More than avoiding escape, they perceive that they are there to offer care to the convict, supply their needs, perceive their anguish, set an example, show that there are possibilities other than crime and seek a relationship based on respect, regardless of a higher or lower approximation with those in custody.

    Pretendemos, no presente estudo, demonstrar o que significa ser agente penitenciária na principal prisão feminina do Rio Grande do Sul. Para isso buscamos, através da realização de pesquisa empírica, utilizando várias técnicas (abordagem etnográfica, revisão bibliográfica e entrevistas), retratar como as agentes percebem sua função e os tipos de relações que desenvolvem com as presas durante o exercício de sua profissão. O campo acontece nas dependências da Penitenciária Feminina Madre Pelletier, em Porto Alegre, durante o período de abril a novembro de 2015. A partir do desenvolvimento deste trabalho, verificamos que, na visão das agentes penitenciárias, sua função vai muito além da vigilância dos corpos aprisionados. Mais que evitar fugas, elas percebem estar ali para oferecer assistência às presas, suprir suas necessidades, perceber suas angústias, dar exemplo, mostrar que existem outras possibilidades que não o crime e buscar uma relação baseada no respeito, independente de uma maior ou menor aproximação com as custodiadas.
