Most electricity in poverty-stricken Malawi comes from renewable sources. Solar panels on some school roofs are a prime example. What little central generation takes place in this corner of Africa is mainly hydropower. This all sounds relatively green, until people realize the country has one of the highest deforestation rates in the world.
