  • Resumen
    • The sound of video games has changed from the use of a small range of different sounds via chiptune music to the current standard of adaptive sound design and opulent orchestral sound. Apart from aesthetic and commercial dimensions, sound in video games also fulfils concrete ludic and narrative functions. Perhaps most saliently, it contributes to the atmosphere of virtual spaces and helps players to more strongly empathize with game events and the characters they control. This article focuses on the various functions of sound in story-based video games, distinguishing between the auditive components of noise, music, and speech.
