  • The article discusses the use of prosthetic implants and gene therapy in treating vertigo. Particular focus is given to research on the peripheral vestibular system. Details on the multichannel vestibular implant developed at Johns Hopkins University and on the ATOH1 gene, which directs the creation of hair cell growth in the inner ear, are presented.
