The article discusses efforts by astronomers Bruce Macintosh and Jean-Luc Beuzit to capture images of planets in other solar systems which resemble the planet Jupiter. Details on the Gemini Planet Imager (GPI) used by Macintosh and the Spectro-Polarimetric High-contrast Expolanet Research Instrument (SPHERE) used by Beuzit are presented. The formation of giant planets and their role in shaping their planetary systems are also discussed.
