  • The article looks at a model car developed at Columbia University which is powered by evaporation. The vehicle incorporates plastic tapes covered in bacterial spores, which absorb moisture and expand and then contract, creating torque in its rotary engine. Scientists have used the same technology to power light-emitting-diode (LED) lights.
