  • The article focuses on the impact poverty has on conservation efforts and how decoupling can benefit people and biodiversity. It states forests in the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo are under pressure from the charcoal trade and poaching. It comments on indoor farming by Shigeharu Shimamura in Japan which uses light emitting diodes, plant food, and water to harvest 10,000 heads of lettuce a day. It talks about how social changes will amplify changes in farming.
