  • The article discusses migraine headaches, with a particular focus on the development of a drug designed to prevent migraines. The drug targets the neurotransmitter calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) in the trigeminal nerve system, which researcher Peter Goadsby believes is the center of migraine activity. Details on the history of migraine research and treatment, including the drugs known as triptans and the suspected role of vasodilation in migraines, are presented. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is also discussed.
