The article discusses entomology research by curator of fossil arthropods at the U.S. Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and cockroach specialist at the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Peter Vrsansky. The team analyzed 21 cockroach fossils and found four species of Ectobius dating back to the Eocene, which predated the European specimens and suggests that Ectobius went extinct in North America.
