In this article the author presents a discussion of the relationship between integral calculus and religion, adapted from his book "Infinitesimal: How a Dangerous Mathematical Theory Shaped the Modern World." The disagreement between Italian mathematician Bonaventura Cavalieri and Swiss mathematician Paul Guldin, who belonged to different Catholic orders, about how to use mathematics to understand the nature of reality is discussed.
