  • The article discusses the development of biosensor devices for the rapid identification of bacterial, viral, and fungal pathogens in patients as of June 2014 by the author and other researchers, focusing on the potential ability to combat disease outbreaks by networking such machines. Topics include use of the technology to allow faster treatment prescription, an early warning system against epidemics or biological warfare attacks, and political and regulatory challenges to the technology.
