    Henri Pichette’s dramatic work has barely been the particular focus of scholar’s attention. Nevertheless, his most famous play, Les Épiphanies, published a few years after Second World War, still continues to cast its spell on readers and artists, and raises many questions. His dramatic work pushes back the frontiers of visibility. It draws upon several interwoven and apparently contradictory discursive and iconic modes, which substantiate each other.

    Keeping any stylistic analysis at some distance, we will rather try to find out and clarify one of Pichette’s structural framework, who blurs and conceals what he pretends to bring to light. We will analyze how the link between language and silent images works. On stage as well as on the pages of the printed book, there is an articulation between what is blurred or erased and what is revealed.

    Le théâtre d’Henri Pichette a jusqu’ici fait l’objet de peu d’études spécifiques. Sa pièce la plus célèbre, Les Épiphanies, datant d’après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, n’en continue pas moins d’éblouir et de susciter maintes questions. Son théâtre, aux frontières du visible, sollicite plusieurs logiques : un cheminement explicitement discursif, et une approche iconique : les deux entrant sans cesse en friction, se convoquant et s’affirmant mutuellement. Notre travail s’éloignera d’une analyse purement stylistique, pour tenter de mettre en avant l’un des nombreux principes d’occultation qui sont ceux de Pichette. Il s’agira donc de dépasser de trop simples dichotomies, pour proposer une articulation entre langage et image, ou, autrement dit, entre le révélé et le caché, que ce soit sur la scène ou dans les pages mêmes du livre imprimé
