La cobertura del poder suave mexicano en la prensa catalana

    Este artículo investiga el poder suave que México ejerce en Cataluña a través de los periódicos La Vanguardia y El Periódico de Catalunya entre 2013 y 2016. A partir de una muestra representativa de ciento diez noticias, se presenta un análisis cuantitativo en el que los resultados muestran que estos diarios construyen una imagen de México como potencia cultural y con vigor económico. Las temáticas culturales que reciben mayor cobertura son la literatura y el cine, la música y el teatro, la inmigración, la educación, el turismo, la gastronomía y el patrimonio histórico.

    En cuanto a las económicas, destacan a Méixco como un país en el que hay la oportunidad de invertir, estable financieramente y con calidad de empresas y productos. Estas grandes fortalezas se enmarcan también en el contexto más amplio de las relaciones con España.

    Otra de las conclusiones es que escritores, cineastas, artistas, cantantes, cocineros, académicos, estudiantes y la población mexicana residente en Cataluña son los principales promotores del poder suave.

    In this paper, we present a research about the Mexican soft power in Catalonia through the newspapers La Vanguardia and El Periódico de Catalunya during the years 2013 to 2016. A sample of one hundred ten news, considered to be sufficiently representative, allows us to practice a quantitative analysis whose results show that these newspapers are building an image of Mexico as a country of cultural power and economic strength. The Mexican cultural subjects that receive the widest coverage are literature and cinema, music and theatre, immigration, education, tourism, gastronomy and historical heritage. Economically speaking, those pieces of news underline Mexico as a country that provides the opportunity to invest, financially steady and where the quality of companies and products is high. These great strengths are also framed in the broader context of the relationship with Spain.

    Another conclusion is that writers, filmmakers, artists, singers, cooks, academics, students and the Mexicans settled in Catalonia are the main promoters of this soft power favourable to Mexico.
