    Objetivo La ciudad contemporánea genera con facilidad lugares sin nombre, espacios de identidad difusa que han recibido múltiples nombres desde la teoría urbanística. El objeto del trabajo es analizar en qué medida la interpretación de estos espacios asociada a estos nombres es convergente o divergente, es decir, dilucidar si se trata de términos diferentes para designar una misma realidad urbana o si, por el contrario, estos nombres hacen referencia a diferentes aspectos de esa realidad, por lo que se complementan como explicación de la misma.

    Metodología Se analiza de manera comparativa la interpretación de los lugares sin nombre asociada a los términos más significativos que se han propuesto para identificarlos, en lo referente a tres aspectos principales: el tipo de realidad urbana concreta que designan, la perspectiva desde la que se valora esa realidad y, finalmente, las estrategias de actuación propuestas para estos espacios.

    Conclusiones El trabajo identifica el grupo de términos que, dentro de los que designan los lugares sin nombre, tiene una relevancia mayor desde el punto de vista de las disciplinas proyectuales, y que pueden considerarse en gran medida como intercambiables, todos ellos asociados a alguna estrategia de actuación en los espacios residuales urbanos, estrategia que es en la mayoría de los casos de tipo paisajista.

    Originalidad El análisis comparativo realizado ofrece argumentos para descartar algunos términos que resultan equívocos para identificar los lugares sin nombre, y para afianzar otros en base a su mayor valor interpretativo y también instrumental.

    Objective The contemporary city often generates places without name, spaces of diffuse identity that have received multiple names from the urban theory. The purpose of this work is to analyze to what extent the interpretation of these spaces associated with these names is convergent or divergent, that is, elucidate if they are different terms to designate the same urban reality or if, on the contrary, these names refer to different aspects of that reality, so they complement themselves as an explanation of it.

    Methodology The interpretation of the unnamed places associated with the most significant terms that have been proposed to identify them is analyzed in a comparative manner, regarding three main aspects: the type of concrete urban reality that they designate, the perspective from which this reality is evaluated and, finally, the proposed intervention strategies for these spaces.

    Conclusions The work identifies the group of terms that, within those that designate the places without name, have a greater relevance from the point of view of design disciplines, and that can be considered to a large extent as interchangeable, all of them associated to some strategy of intervention in urban waste spaces, a strategy that is in most cases linked to landscaping.

    Originality The comparative analysis carried out provides some reasons to discard some terms that can be equivocal to identify the places without a name, and to strengthen others because of their greater interpretative and instrumental value.
