La vinculación de la religión con el extremismo religioso en África subsahariana, y la del extremismo religioso con la violencia y la inseguridad, constituye el núcleo de este artículo. La tesis por la que discurre el artículo es que el extremismo que justifica la violencia en nombre de la religión no tiene nada que ver con la religión. El cristianismo y el islam, las dos religiones predominantes en el continente africano, son religiones de paz. Solo interpretaciones descontextualizadas, y deslegitimadas por la falta de autoridad de quienes las realizan, conectan religión y violencia, logrando con ello la cooptación de seguidores, y la creación de grupos de poder amparados en el terror. La República Centroafricana ofrece un ejemplo claro de cómo grupos armados con intereses militares y políticos pueden manipular a la población e incitarla hacia el odio y la violencia, utilizando para ello diferencias religiosas, incluso en escenarios en los que esas comunidades han vivido en paz, juntas durante generaciones, compartiendo una misma ciudadanía.

The linking of the religion with the religious extremism in sub-saharan Africa, and that of religious extremism with the violence and insecurity constitutes the core of this article. The thesis by the runs the article is that the extremism that justifies the violence in the name of religion has nothing to do with religion. Christianity and Islam, the two dominant religions in the African continent, are religions of peace. Only interpretations decontextualized, and de legitimates by the lack of authority of those who carry them out, connect religion and violence, and thereby ensure the cooptation of followers, and the creation of power groups covered in the terror. The Central African Republic offers a clear example of how armed groups with military and political interests can be manipulated to the population and encourages them toward hatred and violence, using religious differences, even in scenarios that these communities have lived in peace, together for generations, sharing the same citizenship.
