  • The authors applaud the city of Baltimore, Maryland for treating violence as a public health issue, thereby enabling the city to establish solutions that keep its citizens safe. The authors discuss the city's Safe Streets program which involves conflict mediators that attempt to address volatile situations, particularly those involving high risk youth, before they can escalate into violence. They also talk about the steps Baltimore has taken to address addiction and how it leads to violence.
