    El Catastro de Ensenada fue el instrumento hacendístico más avanzado del Antiguo Régimen. No consiguió su objetivo, que cada uno pague por lo que tiene, pero gracias a la gran labor de catastrar las castillas, pueblo a pueblo, hoy contamos con una importante fuente histórica a través de la cual podemos conocer la realidad de los pueblos castellanos a mediados del siglo XVIII.

    La villa de Fuenmayor se sometió a este proceso catastrador en el año 1752 y gracias a los datos fehacientes extraídos de las averiguaciones llevadas a cabo podemos conocer una instantánea fija de la sociedad y economía de la villa a mediados del siglo.

    Una sociedad estamental y desigual con una economía basada en la agricultura, el autoabastecimiento y la diversificación de labores, en definitiva, un claro ejemplo de la sociedad del Antiguo Régimen.

    Ensenada’s land register was the most advanced tool used by the Internal Revenue during the Old Regime. It did not succeed reaching its aim, making everyone pay for his possessions, but thanks to the great work of registering the Castilles, village by village, nowadays we have an excellent historical source by means of which we can get to know the reality of the Castilian villages during the middle of the XVIII century.

    The town of Fuenmayor went through the registering process during the year 1752 and due to the reliable data obtained from the research, we have a clear-cut picture of the society and economy of the town in the middle of the XVIII century. An unequal and stratified society with an economy based on agriculture, self-sufficiency, and labour diversification, that is, a clear example of Old Regime’s society.
